A Religious Journalism című szeminárium a katolikus újságírás sajátosságait mutatja be egy vatikáni újságíró szemüvegén keresztül. Az angol nyelvű kurzus továbbá lehetőséget ad a vallási újságírás gyakorlatának és fortélyainak megismerésére és azok begyakorlására is.
Az előadó gazdag tapasztalattal rendelkezik a katolikus újságírás területén. Tanulmányait a Libera Università degli Studi Maria Ss. Assunta di Roma kommunikáció szakán végezte, az Istituto Universitario Sophián (Loppiano, Olaszország) folytatott doktori tanulmányainak témája az Európai Püspöki Konferenciák Tanácsának tevékenysége. The Seminar on Religious Journalism aims to explain the aims, objectives, and philosophy of Catholic journalism. The Seminar, in particular, focuses on how to report on religious facts without using the biases of the secular media and political and politicized interpretations of religion. It explains the role of the Vaticanist and how his role has emerged in the present day and addresses some of the central themes of religious information today.
Seminar’s curriculum
The Seminar is structured into four lessons of three hours. Two hours will be dedicated to the theoretical approach, and one hour will be devoted to a case history.
Lessons plan
Day 1 – What is Religious information? Introduction to the topic of religious information. Description of the difference between religious information and secular information. Description of secular information biases regarding religious information.
Case history: the „hidden magisterium” (from the media) of Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI
Day 2—The Vaticanist. Who is the Vaticanist, and what does he do? The history of the Vaticanist journalist and its development over the years. The Vatican correspondent’s sources and journalistic points of reference.
Case history: the Holy See Press Office and the evolution of its role
Day 3 – Themes of religious information. What are the topics of interest for those who provide religious details? The angles to follow when reporting the stories, the historical references to understand the context of the news and the writing method.
Case history: World Youth Day in Lisbon and its impact on the media
Day 4 – Themes of Vatican journalism. Vatican journalism is a peculiar aspect of religious information. The most important themes and questions. The necessary skills. The keys to understanding the debate in the Vatican.
Case history: the Pope’s diplomacy, its history, its importance today
